The Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) is a family of automatic rifles (or machine rifles) and light machine guns that were used by many countries during the last century. The most common type of BAR was the M1918, which was designed by John Browning. It uses .30-07 Springfield rifle cartridges.
The Browning Automatic Rifle was designed for offensive use with infantrymen. The rifle was slung over the shoulder and fire from the hip which was popular during trench warfare. On the field it was most commonly used as a light machine gun in conjunction with a bipod.
